When Wales play Israel in their Euro 2016 qualifier in Haifa on Saturday evening, Ashley will win his 50th international cap for Wales.
First spotted by Wales Under-21s manager Brian Flynn, the Swans and Wales captain made his international debut for Wales in a 2-0 win against Luxembourg on 28 March 2008 after impressing then Wales manager John Toshack with his defensive displays whilst at Stockport County. The following day he joined Swansea on loan from Stockport County.
Ashley had the honour of captaining his country for the first time in the 3-nil victory over Scotland on 14 November 2009 and scored his first international goal in a 5–1 friendly win over Luxembourg in Llanelli on 11 October 2010.
BBC Radio Wales broadcast a special Sports programme about Ashley and his 50 cap milestone this week.
